Victory Over Our Struggles

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;” ~ Luke 4:18 NKJV

This is Jesus' first speaking engagement. He opens the Word of God. Then He opens His mouth and defines His mission and purpose in covenant language. Jesus proclaims to all mankind that there will be a cosmic struggle between Himself and Satan. In Matthew, Mark and Luke, they describe that this battle is between two kingdoms - the kingdom of darkness versus the kingdom of light.

Later Paul writes to the church of Ephesus. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” ~ Ephesians 6:12 NIV

Jesus and Paul understands that righteous living will bring spiritual warfare in the life of the believer. Satan is determined to interrupt the purpose of the believer. But Jesus declares that he will proclaim the gospel to poor. The Word of God will heal the broken-hearted...will recovery the sight to the blind...set free the captive...and give liberty to those who are oppressed. Jesus was determined to carry out His assignment. And because he carry out his assignment, we walk in total victory.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” ~ I John 5:4 NKJV

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~ I Corinthians 15:57 NKJV

Now that we know we have the victory. Let's look at what Jesus Christ gave us victory over:

First, Jesus heals the heart of His people. He saves us. In John 3, we find Nicodemus coming to see Jesus to ask Him about being born again. And Jesus shares with a Pharisee that he can be saved. Jesus came for the lost, so they may be saved.

Secondly, Jesus touches the physical bodies of the sick and disease. He then heals us. There was a woman in Matthew 9 and Luke 8 that was bleeding for twelve years. She reaches out to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment…and He returns to touch her. In His touching, she becomes whole. She is healed. What doctors could not do in twelve years, Jesus does in a touch. Jesus heals this sick woman.

Lastly, Jesus sets our emotions free. And He delivers us. In Luke the 7th chapter, there is woman that comes to meet Jesus. She washes the feet of Jesus with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair. She pours the alabaster jar of perfume and kissed his feet. Alabaster box represent her past life…her sins…and her emotional pain. And Jesus turns to her and delivers her from those things that have her emotionally burden. Jesus delivers this woman of her emotional wounds.

Remember Jesus came to give us victory and liberty over everything that attempts to keep us separated from His Kingdom. The kingdom darkness comes against the kingdom of light. But Jesus came to make us the righteousness of God.

Our Prayer

Father, Thank You for never taking Your eyes off of me for one moment. You sent Your Son so I can have liberty in You. Thank You for saving me from my sin, healing my physical body from sickness and disease, and delivering me from my emotions. It’s Your faithfulness that allows me to see the victory you gave me in Your covenant. Teach me to rely on Your power alone, to be constantly be reminded of Your suffering, and to trust in Your goodness. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
